Transformation from Drug Addiction to Sober Life

In many cases, a drug addict is not able to control his or her urges or emotional state while abusing substances. Sometimes, it is not only their personality that will change but also their physical appearance; this can be distressing and upsetting for loved ones to deal with, and in some cases, can lead to the deterioration of once stable relationships. If the addict is lucky enough to overcome his/her addiction, the changes in their overall behaviour and their appearance should improve dramatically. One example of this is Dejah Hall. She battled a severe drug addiction but once she had overcome this, compared pictures of herself during her struggle and afterwards ‘the results were outstandingt.

Amazing Transformation

Twenty-six-year-old Dejah Hall from Arizona has taken to the Sobriety Birthdays Facebook page to share her amazing transformation after overcoming a severe drug addiction; her post has now been shared by thousands of users on social media platforms. She posted a photo which was taken in December 2012 on the day she was arrested – this was the same day that she made a promise to her grandfather that she would beat her addiction. The other photo was taken this year after she had made a full recovery.

I Was a Monster!

Dejah said, ‘I was a monster. I was a monster in every sense of the word. Today marks four years clean from heroin and meth. The top left is me in full blown addiction; I was a terrible IV user and like most, progressively got worse. The bottom left is me the day I was arrested, and coincidentally the day I finally surrendered to God! I am completing my BA [Bachelor of Arts degree] and hope to one day be a prison minister. I have a beautiful 18-month-old and every day I thank God that I am not where I once was! Sobriety is possible.’

Overwhelming Support

She also said that she was ‘overwhelmed’ by the support she has received on the back of her post. She said, ‘I know what I want for my life, and I know that helping others obtain sobriety is one of those things. These pictures are humiliating and show the real effects of drugs, but that doesn’t have to be your reality!
